So my apps are already supported on the iPad SDK 3.2 beta, which is a relief for not. But I've been reading how no one wants the iPad.... they obviously are not near my house where the debate of who will bring the first unit home. (Spoiler alert... it'll be me)
However some thoughts on this technology where people are bad mouthing the fact that there is no Webcam, USB, or SD card.... well, are we sure?!
There is a camera 30pin connector kit with 2 plugs listed on the apple iPad Technical page, one has a USB port and the other is for SD.
The question is can you plug in a USB webcam to this plug and the OS find it for use as a video camera. Apple did have a connector for the iPod to connect a camera too a while back.
Will the iPad replace my macbook? No!, but will it replace my macbook on family trips? Yes you bet. Will the iPad replace my mothers day-to-day use computer? I'm almost sure of it. Will it replace her business management computer... maybe, with the cloud computer services such as Quickbooks online, this may become a reality.
I like the way Apple thought about this device. I think we all should think differently, and ask the tough questions. Will the user just understand how this works, or am I going to require them to be a domain expert to be successful at the basic operation of my app.
For the iPad I think the answer is, "it just works, you pick it up and just Do stuff".
